What Is New in RTE Gujarat 2026-27
This year’s admission cycle brings two important changes that every parent must know:
π
School Shift Selection
For the first time in RTE Gujarat’s history, parents can now choose whether their child attends the morning shift or afternoon shift. This feature is available inside the application form itself. Earlier, shift was assigned by the school.
π
Seat Count: 84,000+
This year’s available seats are slightly lower than last year’s 94,798 β reflecting updated school participation data from the Directorate of Primary Education. With fewer seats and more eligible families (βΉ6L limit), competition will be higher. Apply early and select more schools.
Income Limit β Old vs New
The βΉ6 lakh income limit introduced in 2025-26 continues for 2026-27. This was a landmark change that made lakhs of additional families eligible. Here is how the limits compare:
β Old Limit (Before 2025)
βΉ1.20L
Rural families per year
βΉ1.50L
Urban families per year
Only ~45,000 admissions (2023-24)
β New Limit (2025 onwards)
βΉ6,00,000
Same for rural & urban both
4Γ increase in limit
~88,000 admissions (2024-25) β +96%

What Happens After You Apply
Once you submit the application, the process moves through four stages:
1. Document Verification
District education officials verify all uploaded documents online. If a correction is needed, you get a 48-hour window to fix it. Watch for SMS and email alerts. Missing this window permanently rejects the application.
2. Computerized Lottery
All verified applications enter a transparent computerized lottery. Seats are allotted based on priority category, distance to school, and random allocation. The RTE Gujarat lottery result 2026 will be announced round-wise from late April onwards.
3. Admit Card Download
If selected, download the admit card from rte.orpgujarat.com using your application number and child’s date of birth. This is your official proof of selection.
4. School Admission β 72 Hours Critical Window
Take the printed admit card and all original documents to the allotted school within 72 hours of admit card generation. This deadline runs continuously β weekends and holidays are counted. Missing it causes automatic cancellation and the seat moves to the next round.
